Since the bait opener, weve heard of a few boats on the Kasilof River netting kings every day and some boats landing upwards of 3 on one trip! They have also seen pockets of Silver Salmon Spawning. SEPTEMBER 4, 2020 - LOWER KENAI RIVER REPORT - Action has been relatively decent for Coho Salmon on the Lower Kenai River. KASILOF RIVER REPORT - Coho Salmon fishing has been good on the Kasilof River. The trout fishing is winding down and some Silvers are showing up as well. The Russian and Kenai confluence receives an immense amount of foot traffic during salmon season and its difficult to overlook the impact so many pairs of wading boots can have. June 11th brought on the Rainbow Trout opener on the Upper and Middle Kenai River. Don't buy the Fish Derby ticket; it's unlikely that a June catch will win. There is decent to good Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden fishing. They have also seen pockets of Silver Salmon finishing out their spawn. A slow return and low numbers have prompted this decision. There are trails, campgrounds, and restrooms. The Upper Kenai River Refuge (Sportsmans Landing to Jims Landing/Lower Skilak Lake Campground) is busy with lots of angling pressure. Trout and Char are at their most vulnerable during the winter months. Fishing has tapered off a little as the river is cooling off and dropping quickly. Sockeye Salmon fishing on the Kasilof River continues to be steady from the outlet of Tustumena Lake all the way to the lower holes of the lower river.
