The Alto Knights, The Monkey, Until Dawn & More

Mobsters, monkeys and monsters, oh my!

Greetings, readers! Welcome back for another round of movie trailer goodness in this week’s edition of Trailer Tuesday. This week’s offering features five new trailers, with the horror genre showing up big here. Longlegs writer/director teams up with producer James Wan and author Stephen King to deliver the twisted horror comedy The Monkey. Directors David F. Sandberg and Jaume Collet-Serra return to the horror genre with Until Dawn and The Woman in the Yard, respectively. And Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson directs Academy Award winner Robert De Niro in the biographical crime drama The Alto Knights.

So let’s take a look at the upcoming attractions!

Acclaimed filmmaker Barry Levinson (Diner, Rain Man, Tin Men, Bugsy) reunites with Wag the Dog and What Just Happened star Robert De Niro in The Alto Knights. With De Niro pulling double duty as both Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, the film focuses specifically on the real life crime bosses’ intense feud for control of the New York mob, Costello’s attempted assassination and the repercussions that followed.

In The Ballad of Wallis Island, eccentric lottery winner Charles (Tim Key) hires his favorite musician Herb McGwyer (Tom Basden) to play a gig on his private island. Seems like a simple deal, but when it’s revealed that Charles also hired McGwyer’s former bandmate and ex-girlfriend Nell Mortimer (Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan), old tensions resurface.

Filmmaker Osgood Perkins delves into the warped world of Stephen King with The Monkey. When a vintage toy monkey responsible for unleashing a string of horrifying deaths resurfaces, the twin brothers (Theo James) who discovered it years ago must reunite to destroy the cursed toy.

Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg returns to the horror genre with Until Dawn, which is based on the 2015 video game of the same name. A year after her sister Melanie (Maia Mitchell) mysteriously vanished, Clover (Ella Rubin) and her friends set out to the place of her disappearance in search of answers. There, they find themselves horrifically murdered; however, things get really weird when they wake up and find themselves back to the beginning of that night. Forced to relive this recurring nightmare again and again, the group must face a variety of terrifying threats, with the only means of escape being surviving – yep, you guessed it – until dawn.

House of Wax and Orphan director Jaume Collet-Serra also returns to the horror genre with The Woman in the Yard. Still reeling from the death of her husband (Russell Hornsby), Ramona (Danielle Deadwyler) has her and her two children’s own personal world shaken once again by the appearance of a lone, spectral woman in their front yard. All the mysterious woman says to her is “today’s the day.” Of course, Ramona hasn’t the slightest clue what is meant by that, but as the woman creeps closer and closer to her house, she quickly realizes it’s more of a sinister warning than a playful taunt.
