Bloat, Drop, Mickey 17 & More

Water demons, terrifying messages and clones galore!

Greetings, readers! Welcome back for another round of movie trailer goodness in this week’s edition of Trailer Tuesday. This week’s offering features six new trailers for your viewing pleasure. Gotham’s Ben McKenzie takes on both the screenlife and possession horror genres in Bloat. Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon returns with the mystery thriller Drop. And Robert Pattinson, Robert Pattinson, Robert Pattinson and Robert Pattinson star in Academy Award winner Bong Joon-ho’s clone-centric sci-fi black comedy Mickey 17.

So let’s take a look at the upcoming attractions!

In Bloat, two parents (Ben McKenzie and Bojana Novakovic) almost experience the worst nightmare of their life when a drowning accident nearly takes the life of one of their sons while vacationing in Japan. However, that nightmare resurfaces in a different form when the boy starts to exhibit strange, perhaps even demonic, behavior.

From Happy Death Day and Freaky director Christopher Landon, Drop centers around the worst first date of all time. While out on her first date in years, a widowed mother (Meghann Fahy) starts to receive a series of anonymous drops to her phone that grow increasingly threatening. All she has to do is follow instructions, or else her family will be killed. What’s the directive from her anonymous tormentor? Kill her date (Brandon Sklenar).

Stranger Things and Ghostbusters: Afterlife star Finn Wolfhard teams up with Billy Bryk to deliver the horror comedy Hell of a Summer. 24-year-old camp counselor Jason Hochberg (Fred Hechinger) is excited for another summer at Camp Pineway. But when a masked killer starts a killing spree on the campgrounds, he and the campers must figure who the masked assailant is. The real kicker is that it just might be one of them within their group.

Academy Award winner Bong Joon-ho teams up with Robert Pattinson and Oscar nominees Steven Yeun, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo for the sci-fi black comedy Mickey 17. Here, Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson) signs up to be an “expendable”: a disposable worker who’s assigned dangerous missions, and in the event he dies, a new “multiple” will be regenerated to perform the tasks. However, things take a rather complicated turn into existential identity crisis territory when one of Mickey’s multiples named Mickey 17 somehow survives and runs right into Mickey 18.

In A24’s Opus, young, aspiring journalist Ariel Ecton (Ayo Edebiri) is invited to the remote compound of a legendary pop star, Alfred Moretti (Academy Award nominee John Malkovich), who disappeared from the public eye thirty years ago and is preparing for a comeback. Seems like a dream career move for Ariel, but as she finds herself surrounded by Moretti and his band of sycophants, she realizes she’s right in the middle of the charismatic star’s true twisted plan.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller delivers another rom-com with Amazon’s You’re Cordially Invited. Jim (Will Ferrell) wants to give his daughter Jenni (Geraldine Viswanathan) the wedding of her dreams, and is able to make that happen for her by booking the event at an idyllic, remote resort. But, of course, there’s a monkey wrench thrown into the mix when they discover their venue has been double booked by another bride, Neve (Meredith Hagner), and her feisty wedding planner sister Margot (Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon). Naturally, chaos then ensues as Jim and Margot go to war to ensure their respective brides’ happiest day of their lives goes exactly as planned.
